Robert Bloom

Robert Bloom (1908-1994) was possibly the most recorded oboist of the twentieth century; a complete discography will soon be made available, posted on www.robert-bloom.com, listing the hundreds of commercial recordings he made with the Bach Aria Group and as principal oboist of the broadcast and recording orchestras in New York City in the 1940s and 1950s (NBC, RCA, Columbia, Capitol) under the batons of Toscanini, Stokowski, Reiner, Walter, Stravinsky, Bernstein, Shaw, Steinberg, Wallenstein, Beecham, Krips, Kondrashin, Cellini, Leinsdorf, Mitropoulos, Morel, Iturbi, Gould, Solomon, Bennett, Klemperer, and others. Many of these recordings are being re-released by the recording companies, such as the Swan of Tuonela by Sibelius and the Water Music Suite by Handel with Stokowski, the D Major Divertimento of Mozart with Reiner, several volumes recorded by the Bach Aria Group, and others. This CD is part of a series called The Art of Robert Bloom, presenting live performances from 1930 through 1980. The series will include Bloom’s work with the Bach Aria Group as well as performances of music for oboe and piano, more chamber music for mixed ensemble, and appearances as a concerto soloist.
