Richard D. Blair is a recently retired Professor Emeritus from the University of Texas School of Music where he served for 41 years. In additional to his principal teaching assignments of oboe and chamber music, he served at various times as Assistant Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Acting and Associate Chairman of the Department of Music, student advisor, and as an Assistant Director of the Longhorn Band.
His performance career, in addition to the U.T. Woodwind Quintet and various special groups, includes engagements with orchestras throughout the state of Texas, the San Antonio Symphony, and many years as principal oboist of the Austin Symphony. He graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he was a pupil of Fernand Gillet.
