Phoebe Carrai, a native Bostonian, finished her Bachelor and Masters degrees at the New England Conservatory in 1979, studying with Lawrence Lesser. In 1979 she won a Beebee grant and studied in Salzburg with Nicholas Harnoncourt. She became a member of Musica Antiqua Koln (Cologne) in 1983, touring and teaching in the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, and Australia. Now living again in Boston, she is on the faculty of the Longy School of Music as well as the Hochsa de Kunste in Berlin and is performing widely with Boston-based groups such as the Handel and Haydn Society as well as performing and teaching internationally. She is a founding member of the International Baroque Institute at Longy and the Van Swieten Quartet – a string quartet specializing in classical repertoire on period instruments.
