Marina Schmidt diPretoro
Marina Schmidt diPretoro, a native of Bucharest, Romania, graduated with a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from Ciprian Porembescu Music Academy. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from West Virginia University.
A performer with an extensive repertoire in solo and chamber music and a much sought-after accompanist, Dr. diPretoro held positions as staff accompanist at West Virginia University in Morgantown, Rubin Conservatory (Beer-Sheva, Israel), Ciprian Porembescu Music Academy in Bucharest, and George Enescu High School of Music, also in Bucharest. She served as principal keyboardist for the West Virginia Symphony in Charleston.
In addition to her performing career, she has held teaching positions at West Virginia University, Alderson Broaddus College (Philippi, WV) and George Enescu High School of Music. Many of her students have won prizes in national and international piano competitions.
She currently teaches at Duquesne University’s City Music Center in Pittsburgh and performs with the Pittsburgh Symphony.
