What's a Platform?
The Boston Records Web site was created using Yahoo templates at the turn of the millennium. In 2005, upon the death of the company's founder, the web site migrated to templates provided by ProStores, a subsidiary of eBay. In July of 2014, ProStores announced that it was going out of business and warned all of its customers to find a new home. Our current platform is courtesy of a company called Big Commerce. As I told them, I feel like someone just took my non-portable house, ripped it from its foundation, plopped it on a truck, and dumped it in a field. We are supposed to have hyperlinks to biographies of performers, and hyperlinks allowing the user to hear snippets of many of the CD's, and a spinning Harp logo. These are all broken for the moment. Welcome to our new home.
What's the Good News?
On the ProStores platform, many of our customers encountered a processing error in which unsuccessful attempts to purchase merchandise resulted in credit card charges. Multiple calls to the customer service lines of our web site template provider and our credit card processing company failed to produce any admission of wrongdoing, and I am THRILLED to be rid of both companies!
