Benita Valente
Benita Valente, the distinguished American soprano, won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was a participant at the Marlboro Music Festival in 1960 where she recorded Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock with Harold Wright and Rudolf Serkin. She has been the soloist with most of the world’s greatest conductors and orchestras and has been a favorite member of the Metropolitan Opera since her debut in 1973 as Pamina in Die Zauberflote. Ms. Valente has appeared often at the Festivals at Tanglewood, Ravinia, Vienna, Edinburgh, and Lyon. Her recent recitals at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall were sold out.
Boston Records will soon release a “collector’s item” CD, “The Best of Benita.”
